Lorena Herrera Rashid
With subdued irony Lorena Herrera Rashid (*1972 in Mexico City, Mexico) holds a mirror up to the viewer. The world in which we live is so dominated by mass media, artificiality, consumerism and wastage that we are sometimes no longer able to distinguish between the natural and the artificial world. With the sculptures of Lorena Herrera Rashid it is the same. A certain levity in the artist’s approach transforms otherwise disquieting subjects into a collection of delightful objects, using found material. Sustainability is not only reflected in a formal way, but also represented on the level of material and title. After living in Munich for several years the sculptor relocated to her home country of Mexico in 2016, where she now lives and works.
