Daniel Knorr

Daniel Knorr, born in Bucharest in 1968, lives and works in Berlin and Hong Kong. He gained international recognition by representing Romania at the 51st Venice Biennale in 2005 and participating in documenta 14 in Kassel and Athens in 2017. Knorr is one of the leading conceptual artists of his generation, whose artistic approach emerged against the backdrop of the interventionist contextual art of the 1990s. His sculptures, photographs, paintings, performances, site-specific interventions, environments and projects in public space focus on social, political and art system themes, reflect on them, reveal them and put them up for discussion in the context of art. The works, which the artist describes as “materializations”, operate in the traditional line of minimal art and conceptual art, but are expanded to include physical and actionist-participative aspects. The relationship between the public and the private sphere repeatedly comes into focus.
