Slawomir Elsner: Still

Exhibiting in the upper room of the gallery, Slawomir Elsner will be showing current works from his "Still" series, a series of drawings that makes direct reference to Cindy Sherman's famous "Untitled Film Stills" series. He appropriates her depictions of interiors and landscapes but leaves out the artist herself.  Elsner concentrates on the empty background.  The interiors and and landscapes are like stage settings without actors, but on closer scrutiny we become aware of their synthetic nature, their marked orientation on American and Western culture, their openness to associations and new possibilities.
