DAVID CLAERBOUT

Five Hours, Fifty Days, Fifty Years, Konschthal Esch, LU

On October 18, Konschthal Esch will open “Five Hours, Fifty Days, Fifty Years”, a comprehensive exhibition of Claerbout’s selected works. The artist’s exploration of the technological image merges experimental cinema, video installation, digital animation, and live streaming. His work centers on how we perceive images, blurring the lines between vision, memory, and hallucination. The exhibition at Konschthal Esch spans early and recent pieces, including his new installation “The woodcarver and the forest”, a long-term performative film where a serene forest scene gradually transforms as trees are cut to create wooden objects. The work encourages visitors to slow down and reflect on time, nature, and craftsmanship. Accompanying the exhibition, König Books will publish a volume exploring the chapters, disciplines, and techniques that define Claerbout’s practice – offering an interpretive guide to his complex œuvre.
