On the 40th anniversary of Robert Zemeckis’ "Back to the Future", MAUTO presents an exhibition curated by Gianluigi Ricuperati exploring our relationship with time through two iconic design objects: cars and watches. Set against the accelerated rhythms of the digital age, the exhibition reflects on time as both a mechanical measure and an emotional experience.
The exhibition opens with the 1981 DeLorean DMC-12, designed by Giorgietto Giugiaro and made famous by the film saga. Drawings and archival materials from Italdesign trace the creation of this cinematic and design icon, whose futuristic stainless-steel body and gull-wing doors continue to inspire contemporary designers.
At the heart of the exhibition are twelve works from Anri Sala’s "Suspended" series, presented together for the first time in a museum context. Corresponding to the twelve hours of a clock face, these digital drawings explore the suspension, fluidity, and perception of time, offering a poetic meditation on the relationship between time and space, visibility and immateriality.
