Daniel Knorr: Sculpted Platforms
Galerie Rüdiger Schöttle is pleased to announce the solo exhibition “Sculpted Platforms” by the artist Daniel Knorr, presenting two new bodies of work. In the series Sculpted Platforms, created in 2026, we encounter poetic, fragile towers of sediment, at the top of which the shape of leaves or stones are inscribed. The permanent bronze sculptures and the ephemeral wax objects in this new group are based on an accidentally discovered natural phenomenon: erosive processes removed the surrounding mud, while overlying leaves or stones acted as a protective canopy, inscribing their silhouettes three-dimensionally into the soil. Natural in appearance, the objects seem exempt from the laws of physics. They illustrate how even the smallest elements can produce substantial effects. This idea of all-encompassing interconnectedness and the linkages between organic processes continues in Knorr’s second sculptural series, “Synapses”, created in 2025. Here, the artist returns to resin—a material he previously employed in “Depression Elevations”—and translates it into a new formal and conceptual configuration. The material, varying in opacity, coats branches and twigs like an outer membrane, following their organic morphology and synthesizing individual elements into an overarching structure. Existing connections are revealed, while artificial ones are generated.
