Chen Wei is currently showing his solo exhibition “Temporary Theater” at SIGMA’s showroom in Shanghai, on view until 8 March 2026. Curated by SIGMA, the exhibition explores how photographic images are constructed, using staged settings, controlled lighting, and spatial compositions to reflect on the systems and frameworks that shape visual perception.The project brings together photographs, publications, archival documents, and spatial installations, inviting viewers to return to the moment of image production — a space between two and three dimensions, between what is revealed and what remains hidden. In this way, the exhibition investigates images as tools for thought and as a means to question how visual meaning is formed. Alongside the exhibition, a new artist publication titled “Temporary Theater” is released. Structured around twelve key concepts drawn from over two decades of Chen Wei’s artistic practice, the book combines conceptual writing, image archives, and sketches. Together with the new vinyl album “Hypnotic Rain”, these releases present the artist’s work in a broader, more layered, and interdisciplinary way.
