The 2026 Chengdu Biennale examines the textures of everyday existence through its theme, “Pulse of Life (烟火指数).” Bringing together the idea of yanhuo—the warmth, vitality, and rhythms of ordinary life—with the concept of an index as a measure of change across time and space, the theme establishes a framework that connects human experience with broader social and urban conditions.
Organized into six thematic sections and accompanied by a series of public projects, the exhibition presents an empathetic and dynamic portrait of contemporary life. The Biennale presents 328 works and projects, including works by Chen Wei.
