GOSHKA MACUGA

Opening of Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo on the Island of San Giacomo, Venice, IT

On May 7, Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo opens its third venue on Isola di San Giacomo, Venice — a living space where art, nature, and ecological reflection meet.

The inaugural program brings together exhibitions, performances, and site-specific works by international artists, alongside projects from the Collection and a photographic story of the island’s transformation. Outdoors, the island becomes a garden of permanent installations, like Goshka Macuga’s prominent site-specific installation of her work “GONOGO” amongst other works by Pamela Rosenkranz, Claire Fontaine, Thomas Schütte, Hugh Hayden, and Mario García Torres.
With its new location in Venice, the Foundation strengthens its commitment to the promotion of contemporary art and creates a place for production, research, and experimentation, open to dialogue among artists. Fully self-sustaining, the Isola di San Giacomo will also serve as a laboratory for ecological reflection. In this context, Goshka Macuga’s rocket is perfectly placed, as it invites us to reflect on the future of the planet.
