ELIF SAYDAM

Tiemann Prize for Contemporary Painting, Hamburger Bahnhof – Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart, Berlin, DE

Galerie Rüdiger Schöttle is pleased to announce that Elif Saydam’s “Späti” series will enter the collection of the Hamburger Bahnhof – Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart, Berlin, through the Tiemann Prize for Contemporary Painting 2026.

For the fourth time, the Ingeborg and Dr. H. Jürgen Tiemann Foundation is awarding the Tiemann Prize for Contemporary Painting, enabling the Hamburger Bahnhof to acquire six works from Elif Saydam’s “Späti” series (2021–2025) for its collection. The works will become part of the new collection presentation “Tausendmal Berlin”, opening on 12 June 2026, which explores Berlin’s art scene since 1989 within a global context. With this acquisition, the Hamburger Bahnhof further strengthens artistic positions that address questions of identity, belonging, and urban life from a contemporary perspective. The Tiemann Prize jury was convinced by both the artistic quality of the proposed group of works and their lasting integration into the museum’s collection. Elif Saydam’s paintings add a distinctive position to the holdings of the Hamburger Bahnhof, combining an independent visual language with engagement in current social discourses.

The Tiemann Prize ceremony will take place on Friday, 30 October 2026, at the Hamburger Bahnhof – Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart. On the occasion of the award presentation, the museum will host a public conversation with Elif Saydam at 4 pm. The “Späti” series is scheduled to remain on view until at least 2029.
