ELGER ESSER

Tempus pingendi - Die Zeit des Malens, Museum Ratingen, DE

The Museum Ratingen is dedicating a solo exhibition to the internationally renowned artist Elger Esser, whose central focus is landscape photography. Esser, born in Stuttgart in 1967, lives in Düsseldorf, where he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts under Bernd Becher. His work reads as a journey through the history of photography, as well as a nuanced interplay between photography and painting.
Esser’s photographs are created in the style of historical photography; he captures the tranquil atmosphere of landscapes in a poetic manner. Time and again, the past is evoked; the exhibition is thus also part of Ratingen’s anniversary programme, which establishes a wide variety of links to historical and cultural themes.
